Richard William Thomas, 78, of Eagle Point, died May 6, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Thomas was born June 4, 1931 to Claude and Anna Reese Thomas, of Boonsboro, Md.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1948 and served in the Korean War with the 19th Bomb group and returned stateside in November 1951. He was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio until his discharge in 1958, with the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Thomas loved auto and air racing and was part of the Porsche score team at Sebring, Fla. In addition, he was an accomplished pilot and enjoyed attending various air races. It was natural for him to choose a career with Porsche Audi dealerships which spanned 36 years.
In 1966, he married Janice (Jan) Viel. Theirs was a love affair for the ages. They were true soul mates. He was an avid reader. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, fitness walking and road trips. The Lord Jesus and his family were most important to him. His little Shih Tzu, Molly, brought him so much joy.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jan; children, John Anthony Thomas of Santa Maria, Calif., and Deborah Lynn Thomas Bermea (Andy) of Quartz Hill, Calif; two grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin and Claude Thomas, of Hagerstown, Md. and other close relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Edna Moser, Annabell Martz and Genevieve Harshman, all of Hagerstown, Md.
The service for Mr. Thomas is May 18 at 10 a.m. at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Peter Slusher of community bible Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission. Arrangements by Conger-Morris.
