The Shady Cove River ArtWalk, sponsored by the Upper Rogue Regional Tourism Alliance in partnership with Edgewater Inn and Rogue River RV Park, was founded to inspire visual and performing artists while adding to the character and life of this popular fishing and rafting community.
The unique art venue, situated along the banks of the scenic Rogue River, has grown from 35 artists to over 100 visual and performing artists. Many participants are from the Upper Rogue Artists Association, while others participate from all areas of Jackson and Josephine counties, and throughout the state. Last year, the River ArtWalk welcomed a visiting artist from as far as Chicago, Illinois. This year, two artisans will return from the State of Washington, along with visiting artists from Omaha, Nebraska and Reno, Nevada.
The first River ArtWalk attracted weekend guests of 1,200. Organizers expect this year’s attendance to match or exceed last year’s attendance of nearly 5,000.
Businesses surveyed, following last year’s event, reported a 35% increase in sales over the previous summer weekend giving sponsors encouragement that the artwalk environment helps impact the local economy.
With limited space available at Edgewater Inn and Rogue River RV Park, the Shady Cove Business Association (SCBA), working in cooperation with the River ArtWalk, will welcome artists and artisans to tent in front of their storefronts.
Non-profits, including The Material Girls will participate and sell chances on their Friendship Quilt. The Upper Rogue Community Center earns valuable operational funds by selling duck adoptions for their September Rubber Duck Races. In addition, the Prospect – Shady Cove 4H will participate in the Kid’s ArtZone at Aunt Caroline’s Park; students will receive community service hours.
