Local Boy Scout earns Eagle rank

An Eagle Court of Honor was held for Nick Sell on June 5th, 2010. Nick achieved his Eagle Scout rank in December of 2009 but chose to wait until now to have his court of honor so that it could be held at Camp McLoughlin on Lake of the Woods.  Nick is a member of Troop 48 in Eagle Point.

The rank of Eagle Scout in the highest rank one can achieve in Boy Scouts and only about 3% of youth in scouting do so. A project demanding enough leadership skills to test a scout is mandatory, Nick chose to build a 14′ x 28′ woodshed for Trail Christian Fellowship to meet this goal. Hugh’s Lumber donated much of the wood for the project. Along with this project a scout must earn at least 21 Merit Badges in subjects from First Aid to Wilderness Survival to Citizenship. Nick has also done a 50 mile backpacking trip and worked at Camp McLoughlin for the last 9 summers. Nick has spent many days and nights camping and doing other outings with the Troop. He is the past Senior Patrol Leader and now an Assistant Scoutmaster.

There were about 10 other Eagle Scouts in attendance along with 60 other guests. Nick graduated from Eagle Point High School last Friday. He is employed by Valley Feed & Pet Supply. He has enlisted in the US Marine Corps and will leave for boot camp Jan. 17, 2011.
