Rogue Disposal & Recycling Inc. driver Dave Merrill has won the 2010 National Driver of the Year Award, Small Residential category, given by the Environmental Industry Associations of the National Solid Wastes Management Association. The award recognizes waste industry drivers committed to safety, quality and service.
Merrill was honored in person at WasteExpo in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 4, and received a commemorative gift and a $1,000 cash prize. Merrill is in his 20th year at Rogue Disposal & Recycling. His residential route varies including Medford, Central Point, and rural White City.
“This is a pretty exciting honor and it’s good for the company,” Merrill said. “I’m happy to represent Rogue Disposal. It’s a great company to work for and I’m thankful they hired me 20 years ago.”
“Dave is an exemplary driver with an outstanding work ethic, a commitment to our customers, a great attitude, and a flawless safety record. We are very proud of the work he does on a daily basis and feel honored that he has been recognized on a national level,” said Wendel Smith, Rogue Disposal & Recycling Inc. General Manager.
Two years ago, Rogue Disposal & Recycling driver Marty Buda was named a finalist for the 2008 Driver of the Year Award.
Merrill, who served 20 years in the Oregon Army National Guard, has lived in Southern Oregon since 1970 and enjoys hunting and fishing. He’s married with two daughters and became a first-time grandpa in October.
