Walk to Rescue Dogs and Help People with Special Needs

Batteries Plus and Dogs for the Deaf will present the 19th Annual Dog Walk in Hawthorne Park, Medford on June 5. Registration/Check-in and activities start at 8:30 a.m. and continue to 1 p.m.  This year’s theme is 2010: A Space Odyssey. Join in the Pre-Parade around the park then enjoy a stroll along the walkway between Hawthorne Park and Bear Creek Park. 

Following the Dog Walk, there will be a hot dog lunch, costume contest and other fun activities. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Dog Costume with the 2010: A Space Odyssey theme. Come check out the great raffle and silent auction prizes (trips, gift certificates, artwork, and lots more).  It’s great FUN for the entire family!  Come with or without your dog.

Activities include:
•Dachshund Dash/Weenie Dog Races — Calling all Dachshunds and Doxie mixes to join in the race.
•Agility Course demonstration followed by Agility coaching (cost is $5 per dog for going through the course with a coach–donated to DFD) and sponsored by Rogue Canine Agility.
•Meet the Breeds with Rogue Valley Kennel Club members–come ask questions and talk to a breeder.
•KIDS’ ZONE with lots of fun activities for kids of all ages–including a Hoop Shoot Contest sponsored by the Jacksonville Lions Club, face-painting, Umpqua ice cream, cotton candy and games. 
•Hearing and Autism Assistance Dog demonstrations will be given by Dogs for the Deaf trainers.
It’s not too late to register for Dog Walk 2010.  Cost:  Registration fee is $25 per person, ($15 for additional family members of 3 or more) or $75 per teams of 4 (+$18 per additional member). You can also register at the event before 9:30am. Pick up registration forms at Pet Country (in Medford), Mini Pet Marts, veterinarians, and other local businesses.
