Youth cited in skateboard accident

An 11-year-old Eagle Point youth was cited for failure to wear protective head gear and for failure to yield to oncoming traffic in a skateboard versus car accident in Eagle Point last week.

The incident occurred at DeAnjou and Crystal about 3 p.m., June 15 when the skateboarder ran a stop sign and crossed into the path of an oncoming car. There was no way the vehicle could stop, according to the officers. The youth was transported by Mercy Flights to Providence Hospital. At the time he was transported it was believed the injuries were not serious.

The driver of the car was a 16-year-old, who according to police, was not cited.

“Parents need to make sure their children have helmets and wear the helmets whether they are on bikes or skateboards,” said Eagle Point Police Chief John Meeker. “Bicyclists and skateboarders must obey stop signs and lights just as drivers do,” said Meeker.
