Dan Petersen will began as Jackson County District No. 3 Fire Chief on Oct.11 instead of Oct. 18 as originally announced and reported.
Petersen began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter in 1979. After one year as a volunteer, he joined the paid staff of Valley Fire Service (now known as Rural Metro). He joined the Medford Fire-Rescue Department in 1988. Petersen has been an engineer, lieutenant, captain, dispatch supervisor, training chief, EMS chief, shift battalion chief and most recently, deputy chief.
He currently serves on the Red Cross Board of Directors, the DPSST Fire Policy Committee and as a Deputy Plans Section Chief on the OSFM IMT’s. He has held executive offices for the Oregon Fire Instructors Association, Rogue Valley Chiefs Association and the Rogue Interagency Training Association.
Petersen holds a Masters in Management, Bachelors in Fire Administration and an Associate in Fire Science. He is a graduate3 of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program and is an NFPA Fire Officer 4.
