Weekend of music in Prospect, Sept. 25-26

There is another big event about to happen in Prospect. On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25-26, the heart of action in Prospect will be the Prospect Hotel where seven or more groups will be entertaining with “Music in the Mountains.”

Smokey & Friends, will kick things off at 10 a.m. Saturday. They are a Rogue Valley group with a lot of fiddlin’ power. Sequoia will be front and center at noon with an ability to combine various sounds into an acoustic blend. Jesse Woodside, with his down the earth style, will be at the hotel site on Saturday at 2 p.m. and at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Jefferson is a group of five men, with a hard-to-pin down style, described as having infectious energy, will perform Saturday at 4 p.m. Finishing out Saturday Taryn Cross Saturday at 6 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Performing on Sunday only will be Eight Dollar Mountain at 1 p.m.,with some exceptional bluegrass followed at 2:30 by Bath Tub Gin Serenaders. Think about their name and you probably guessed they include hot jazz and blues from the 20-30s and beyond.

Then Saturday at 8 p.m., Denny Lantz invites one and all to a good-old-fashioned barn dance.

Admission for both days and for the barn dance is $28; without the barn dance, tickets are $25. One day tickets, $15 or $18 with the barn dance. Half day tickets are $10.

Saturday night there will be a band at the Trophy Room.

Food, wine, beers, as well as crafts will be available all weekend.

The hotel is located at 391 Mill Creek Drive. Take Hwy. 62 to the Prospect turnoff at 1st St. Turn right at the stop sign and proceed to the hotel. For more information call 541-560-3664.
