Dorcas (Dottie) E. Cooper

Dottie Cooper of Prospect, Ore., passed away on Oct. 17, 2010. She was born Dorcas E. Stebler, on August 20, 1925, in Monet, Mo., to Harry and Blanche Stebler. The family came to Oregon to visit an aunt and fell in love with the Rogue River valley. They sold their farm lock, stock and barrel, and moved to Jackson Road in Ashland, Ore. Her parents owned and operated the Purina Feed Stores in Ashland and Talent until they retired.

Dottie attended Ashland High School, graduating in 1944. She went to work at the VA Domiciliary. While working for Uncle Sam, she met and married, Neil Stockebrand. They had two children. Later, she married William Vary, who preceded her in death. They had one child. In 1971, she married James (Cliff) Cooper, who preceded her in death. Dottie retired from FHA in Sacramento in 1980. Soon after, she and Cliff moved to Prospect where she was active in Lioness and Home Extension (FCE) until her death.

Dottie was preceded in death by two husbands; her sister, Betty Alene Johnson; one nephew, Bruce Johnson; and one granddaughter, Baby Stockebrand. Dottie is survived by her children, Janet Stockebrand, of Prospect, Richard (Shannon) Stockebrand, of Prospect, and Sheryl Micheels (Sam Waller), of Gold Beach, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.

Her celebration of life was held at the Prospect Community Hall, on Oct. 23. Arrangements by Abbey Funeral.
