Wolverines meet the challenge against the Crusaders

Last week the Shady Cove Wolverine Volleyball team took on Applegate and St. Mary’s teams. Monday the 8th grade Varsity, together with 6th grade JV players Kristin Sweem and Kira Hess, traveled to Applegate, winning all three games.

The blue team then took on the mid-level St.Mary’s team in a non-conference matchup Wednesday. Shady Cove fought hard against St.Mary’s tough attack, but came up short, losing all three games (13-25, 20-25, and 9-15). The teams volleyed well, with exciting attacks and digs on both sides of the net. Brenna Blankenship, Dana Johnson, and Kiana Sweem scored several kills, and Mallary Byrd, returning from an injury in preseason, came to the court with a vengeance, scoring some great saves and attacks. Dana Johnson led the team in serving, with 7 straight unanswered points.  T

The Wolverines had fun in their biggest challenge yet, and came away a stronger, more unified team. The blue JV team began their match with St. Mary’s with only 6th graders, winning the first game 25-19, and splitting the next matches 20-25 and 15-9. Kira Hess and Kristin Sweem dominated the scoring with 12 and 10 points each.  The Wolverines take on Butte Falls in back-to-back matches Monday at Shady Cove, and Wednesday at Butte Falls.
