Ella F. Pingle

Ella F. Pingle passed away at her home in Butte Falls November 10, 2010. Ella was born August 3, 1914, in Salt Lake City, Utah to parents Allan E. and Martha Anna Hubbard.

While living in the Long Beach, California area in the 1920s and 1930s, Ella and her sister Julia May Pingle  performed as contortionists and dancers for the vaudeville and circus circuit. They were featured in a Hollywood movie called “Rain or Shine” in 1930.

Ella met her husband Bruce E. Pingle and they were married Aaugust 26, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. The Pingles, with their two children, Julia and Bruce Jr., moved to Mill Mar Ranch, Butte Falls, in 1947. They, and other family members, operated a dude ranch for several years.

In the 1950s, Bruce, Ella and children purchased the Butte Falls General Store which included an over-the-counter meat market. Ella ran the home and did the bookkeeping for the store. After selling the store they remained in the Butte Falls area.

Ella was involved in many civic and volunteer activities through the years to include PTA, school board, Home Extension, genealogy, and the Lions Club. She was very active in the Butte Falls Lioness Club for over 50 years.

Ella’s hobbies were reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, crafts and cooking. The Butte Falls 4th of July parade was a favorite activity. She loved to travel and always had her hat ready to go.

Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce E. Pingle Sr. (1992), and her son, Bruce E. Pingle Jr. (2010). She is survived by her daughter Julia Fuller of Sacramento, CA., daughter-in-law, Diana Pingle of Butte Falls, and several nieces and nephews.

Her six grandchildren include Ed Fuller, Eric Fuller, Jim Fuller and Christine Brake, all of Sacramento, CA area, Kim Pingle, of Medford and Karla Stephens of Grants Pass, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her 96 years will be celebrated Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Butte Falls Community Bible Church, 249 Broad Street, at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow. She will be remember in the Sunday Rosary (9:15 a.m.) and Mass (10 a.m.) at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Shady Cove, or December 5, 2010, where she attended for 50 years.
