It was a long time between last year’s tough loss in championship game (Medford 6 URPW EAGLES 0) and the start of this, but as it turned out the wait was well worth it.The boys 2009 season ended in heartache as they lost to a tough Medford team 6-0, but coming into this season they knew they had to regroup and forget about the past. What they didn’t realize was the path it would take to get back to the Championship game. They would have to play that same Medford team during the regular season and would lose to them once again (13-0) but after the game they, along with the rest of the league, would find out that the Medford team was declared ineligible for using kids outside their playing area. That would pit URPW Eagles again the Ashland Bears, who were victim to the Eagles during last year’s playoffs and during a league game this year.
The game was played Saturday at Crater High School in Central Point and was tabbed to be a meeting of two determined teams. From the opening kickoff it seemed like the Eagle showed up to play a complete game from start to finish. The defense set the tone from the opening kickoff and never let down. There were a few standout plays but the entire defense stood out as a whole. There was allot of hard hitting and we had two interceptions, they only gave up one or two first downs the entire game.
The offense also played the best they’ve played all year in the biggest game of the year, to date. The offensive line played solid as the entire line blocked for our running backs and pass protected for their QB who passed the ball well it situations they needed his arm. Special Teams also played well rounding out a game that was almost played flawlessly in every phase of the game.
