For the fourth year in a row, Shady Cove PremierWest Bank has a gift tree for disadvantaged children from Elk Trail and Shady Cove Schools. It is an opportunity for residents to buy a gift for a child who might not get any other gifts this Christmas. Branch manager, David Rayburn, said, “We are trying to help local kids.”
There are 40 ornaments to choose from, said Shady Cove resident and volunteer Lynn Horn. This is the third year Horn has assisted Rayburn in putting up the tree and decorating it. She had reinforcement from resident Allen Blakemore who helped bring the tree to the bank.
The way it works is that people take an ornament from the tree and buy a gift for the child whose age, gender and needs or wishes are listed. The wrapped gifts are then returned to the bank by December 14 for distribution. The purchase receipt should be included in the package.
The bank also has a large box for the Toys for Tots program put on by the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Those donations should be given unwrapped, said Rayburn. For more information call 541-878-2311.
