Lady Wolverine varsity is undefeated

The Shady Cove Lady Wolverines basketball teams opened their season with games against Harvest, St. Mary’s, and Applegate.  The JV team traveled to Medford for a tough game against a very experienced Harvest team.  The girls learned a lot and played tough, never giving up, though greatly mismatched.  Both teams then hosted St. Mary’s on Monday.  These games were very exciting and well matched, both ending victorious for the Lady Wolverines.  JV struggled in the first half, but then took off with a 27-10 victory.

Kirsten Pariani led the team with 15 points, and rookie post Dana Johnson added another 10.  The varsity game was tight all 4 quarters, with point guard Kiana Sweem putting up 8 points, and Brittany Zomerdyk another 6 before going out with a hand injury in the end.  The Lady Wolverines pulled out a 19-15 victory.

Wednesday Shady Cove hosted the Applegate Cougars for an aggressive varsity match, with both teams going into bonus.  The Wolverines did a great job feeding the ball to post Brenna Blankenship, who scored 16 points and brought down 13 rebounds.  Rookie post Dana Johnson recovered another 9 rebounds.  Point guard Kiana Sweem put up 10 points before fouling out in the 4th quarter.

The Lady Wolverines Varsity finished the week undefeated with a score of 35-20. Coaches Fred Alexander and Julie Bidwell are very proud of the effort and teamwork both teams have displayed this week. This week the Lady Wolverines will travel to Sacred Heart Monday and host Butte Falls Wednesday.
