Panthers 8th grade girls 2-1

The eighth grade girls varsity basketball team opened their regular season with a resounding loss to visiting St. Mary’s. The Panthers started well jumping out to a 6-2 lead only to see the wheels come off as they scored only 2 points the rest of the game in the 33-8 loss.

The eighth grade Panthers rebounded by defeating Grace Christian 45-18 in their next outing. The Panthers jumped out early to lead 18-8 at the half. The third quarter was the real difference as the Panthers outscored Grace 22-4 essentially putting the game away. Sydney May scored 14 points to lead the Panthers. Kayla Nielsen tossed in 9 points followed closely by Janelle Rodgers with 8, Brooke Hanks chipped in with 6 points, Hailey Beebe added 4 and Lucy Linville and Stephanie Ewen tallied 2 points each.

The Panthers took to the road for their next contest as they took on Lorna Byrne in Cave Junction. The Panthers continued their winning ways with a 43-17 victory over the host Vikings. Every player hit the scoring column with Sydney May leading the way with 12 points. Kayla Nielsen posted 8 points, Hailey Beebe and Janelle Rodgers added 6 each. Lucy Linville and Stephanie Ewen put up 4 each. Kennedie Fischetti tacked on 2 and Brook Hanks knocked down a free throw for her only point.
