Eagle Point sent 12 boys to the state championship tournament and six  placed giving the Eagles third place honors. This was the first time in a decade that  the Eagles have done this well. Once a power house in the state, they struggled the last few years to gain back that stature. But, under the leadership of Kacey McNulty, a team is being built.

The first break through at state last weekend came when Ben Zomerdyk, (130)  a senior, defeated Hermiston’s J.Dircksen, 3-1. Dircksen was ranked #1 in at 130 in the state. Zomerdyk ended up placing 4th.

Senior Gage Baumer at 171 and ranked 2nd in the state, lost in a hard fought match in the championship round 5-4 to Tance Privatsky of Lebanon.

Aaron Lorenz, a junior, is now ranked second in the state at112. This comes after being pinned at 5:22 by Roman Holcomb, of Pendleton, in the championship round.

Sophomore Johnny Wilkerson at 160 also brought home a 4th place. Jordy Mallon, Hood River, won with a decision over Wilkerson.

At 140, Travis Woods placed 5th and at 103 Orlando DeLaCruz was 6th.

Eagle Point placed third with 109 points. Hermiston lived up to expectations, placing first with 198 points, followed by Dallas with 138 points.
