He enjoyed country western music, golf, poker, barbecues, family gatherings and travelling to Arizona for the winters. He was a dedicated husband and father, working as a long-haul trucker for over 20 years, and for several years as a commercial fisherman out of Brookings and Charleston, Ore. on his boat, “Naomi.”
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nadine Merck; his son, Wendell Anthony Merck, Jr. (Tony); daughters, Christine Evison, Frances Jermain, Ruth Colley and Sandra Vessels. He was known as `Grandpa’, `Gramps’, `Papa’, and `Poppy’ to 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
His memorial service was held at Trail Christian Fellowship, in a room filled with family and friends. All shared the same story of a man that had the love and respect of friends and family, a good sense of humor and was unselfish, kind, and generous. Wendell was known by many and loved by all. He will be missed by all who knew him.
