Butte Falls speech student is National bound

Butte Falls speech and debate team students attended the South Oregon National Forensic League Qualifying Tournament at the University of Oregon on Mar. 10-11.

There were 163 students representing 18 school competing in 10 different events.  Twenty-one individuals from 12 different schools qualified to participate in the national tournament the middle of June in Dallas, Teas.

Butte Falls Coach Marcia Stewart-Warren congratulated the team on a successful tournament. Two students advanced to elimination rounds. Senior Kyle Kinyon reached quarter final competition in dramatic interpretation and senior Quinby Barrows was a finalist in humorous interpretation. Barrows also earned the opportunity to compete at the national tournament by placing first in dramatic interpretation.

Barrows has enjoyed a very successful competitive year. She also earned two positions–dramatic interpretation and prose reading-at the state tournament prior to competing at the district level through the Proven Excellence System.

The Butte Falls team will be conducting a number of fund-raising activities to help Barrows and her coaches attend the national tournament. Donations of any amount are appreciated. They can be sent to Speech Team, Butte Falls High School, P.O. Box 167, Butte Falls, OR 97522.
