Daffodil Daze, Mar. 26

The 11th annual “Daffodil Daze” Festival is set for Saturday, Mar. 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festivities are centered at Edgewater Inn and throughout Shady Cove businesses. 

The “one-day” celebration, calls attention to a month-long daffodil blooming season on Daffodil Hill.  Event includes an Artisans’ Marketplace, Children’s Spring Parade, Daffy Hat Promenade, Festival Food, Spring Blooms, Antique Car display, Tour of Daffodil Hill, and music by The Diamonds & Denim Band, featuring Julie Millard Griffith and Kathy “Casey” Wilson (performing from 11am to 2pm).

Inside the Edgewater Conference Room, Ray W. Thompson, Award-winning Shady Cove watercolor artist will show for sale twenty original paintings. The Material Girls will display textiles, including the 2011 Opportunity Quilt. Connie Drane, Butte Falls, will present originally designed jewelry.  A vignette of Ginger Rogers’ memorabilia will provide information commemorating the 100th anniversary of Ginger’s birth.

The Artisan’s Marketplace, adjacent to the Edgewater Conference Room, will feature original crafts, including Debby Fulton, Country Comforts Herbal Gardens, from Prospect, displaying natural bath, body products and plants for sale.  Debby and Vi Grimes, under their business name “Snowed-In Handcrafted” will provide an assortment of crafts from Prospect, including quilts and jewelry. 

Debby Fulton will also provide a “hands on” planting session (between 11:00 and 11:30am) for youngsters. 

A 10:30 am “Children’s Spring Parade” (line-up at 10:15 next to the Subway) will depart from Subway to Premier West Bank and back; parents are encouraged to participate in the two-block route (along the walkway paralleling Hwy 62).  Don a spring bonnet and join in – pets welcome on a short leash.

A “Spring Scavenger Hunt” holds opportunity for contestants to win a variety of gifts and prizes.  Participating businesses will have the Scavenger List; businesses will be identified with yellow and green balloons.

Take a two mile scenic tour up Daffodil Hill on board the “Daffy Express” trolley. First boarding at 9:45 a.m. leaves at 10:00 am from the Trolley Station at Edgewater Inn. The trolley departs on the hour and half hour with last shuttle at 3:30 p.m.   Limited seating – For advance reservations call 541-878-3626. Tickets: $2.00 for adults; Free under 10 with an adult.  Tickets may be picked up at the Trolley Station.

The 1.5 mile scenic country road, known as “Daffodil Hill”, is off Rogue River Drive, just a short distance from Hwy 62.  Daffodil Hill is open to the public for “self-guided drives” anytime during the blooming season.

Self-guided vehicles MUST turn around at the posted “turn-around” sign to prevent congestion on the hill.  Watch out for walkers; bring your cameras.
