John Francis Smith, Jr,60, died peacefully in his home in Etna, Calif., on Mar. 25, 2011.
Born Dec. 5, 1950, in Vallejo, Calif., he served in the military as a pararescueman and formed many friends during his 10 years in the military. After serving in the military, he continued to serve the government as an employee in the Veteran’s Administration in White City. He retired in 2000 and moved to Etna to be near his sister Donna.
He was a lover of the ocean, nature and animals, especially dogs, who really were his best friends. His little dog Meghan was his constant companion. He was an accomplished diver, cyclist, mountaineer and active sportsman. His big heart and gentle soul touched many. He loved the Lord and was a biblical scholar. He has gone home to his Heavenly Father that he loves.
He was preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Dhoti; and brother, Michael. He is survived by his sisters, Donna and Susie.
A memorial service will be held Apr. 8, at 11:30 a.m. at the VA Chapel, White City. A military service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the John Smith Memorial Fund, 1 Cambria, Mission Viejo, CA 92692.
