Charlotte Marie (Collins) Bigelow, 73, continued to her next journey on July 22, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. Her husband and family were at her side in her Shady Cove home.
She was born Dec. 9, 1937, in Roseburg, to Charles and Vivienne (Gervais) Collins. Her youngest years were spent at Collins Lookout on Collins Ridge in the Umpqua National Forest. Later she moved to the Summit Guard Station. She graduated from Marshfield High School in Coos Bay.
She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Bigelow, June 9, 1956, in Coos Bay. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959 where they built a house and home together to raise their five children.
Charlotte became one of the first women bus drivers for School District #9 in 1970. She drove for 29 years, seeing three generations of students before her retirement in 1999.
She was a Camp Fire girl, a 4-Her and loved the mountains. Flower gardening, quilting, traveling, sewing reading and hiking were among her many enjoyments.
Survivors include her loving husband Arthur, Shady Cove; daughters, Anne Cummings, White City, Elizabeth Williams (Roger), Shady Cove; sons, Arthur Wade Bigelow (Rhea), Bend, Martin C. Bigelow (Gerri) , Shady Cove, David G. Bigelow, California; a brother, Charles Collins (Glenda) Sisters, OR., 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, 10 step great -grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vivienna Collins and a granddaughter, Michelle Baker.
