On Aug. 2 around 3:45 pm, the Jackson Co. Sheriff’s office responded to Mt. McLoughlin for a report of a missing hiker. The hiker, 17 yr. old, Max Burleith, of Medford was waking with a group of eight people and became separated from them. Burleith spend about an hour or two searching for the group before calling 911. Search & Rescue teams from both Jackson and Klamath counties responded to the search. Ground crews searched for several hours Tues., before calling off the search due to nightfall.
Max has been in contact with emergency officials and says he has no food or water.
On Wed., Aug. 3, search and rescue teams, deputies, and air support started the search again for Max on Mt. McLoughlin. Crews will form teams today, and begin searching the different trails and areas for any signs of Max.
Max was found near 4-mile Lake and is in good condition.
