After starting the new volleyball season with loses to Roseburg and Hidden Valley, the Eagle Point Volleyball team quickly got back on track. The Eagles won the consolation bracket in Roseburg’s weekend tournament on Sept. 10, bringing their season record to 3-2.
On Sept. 13, Eagle Point traveled to Ashland (1-0) and beat the Grizzly’s, 17-25, 25-11, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11. The winner of the season series between Ashland and Eagle Point will win the Southern Oregon Hybrid League 5A championship.
The Eagles were lead by senior Christine McCready, who recorded 14 kills, 15 blocks and 25 digs. The Eagle Point JV and Freshman teams also beat Ashland. This was the first time in decades that Eagle Point defeated Ashland on the Grizzly’s court at every level, varsity, JV and freshman.
Eagle Point will be on the court again this week. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, they travel to Grants Pass and face off against the Caveman (2-3). On Thursday night, at 7 p.m. Eagle Point will host the North Medford Black Tornado (3-2). Fans should come out to watch this great match up for Southern Oregon volleyball powers. North finished the second week of the season ranked fourth at the Oregon 6A level and Eagle Point ranked fifth at the Oregon 5A level.
Eagle Point finished the second week of the season with a 5-2 record. It took the Eagles until their 12th match to notch their fifth win last season and they recorded five victories for the entire season the year before.
