Gary Warren, 77, of Butte Falls, died Nov. 12, 2011at Kinsington Place, in Grants Pass.
An avid fly fisher, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gary will be missed by his family and friends.
Gary was born in El Paso, Texas, on July 28, 1934. He graduated from Shasta High in Redding, Calif., and played basketball for San Jose State.
Gary spearheaded the catch and release section of the Rogue River known as the “Holy Water” in 1991. A fly fishing guide on the Fall River and at the Holy Water, he was a member of the Southern Oregon Fly fishers prior to his illness. He was known for his delightful sense of humor, quick wit and compassionate spirit.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marcia Warren, of Butte Falls,; daughters, Tina Fry and Dolores Warren, both of of Sacramento, Calif., Helen McNeil, of San Mateo, Calif ; a sister, Nita Jergentz, of Chico, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Warren.
A memorial service celebrating Gary’s life will be held at the Butte Falls Community Bible Church, 239 Broad St., on Friday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. A reception will follow.
