SC youth arrested for abuse of cat

A 17-year-old Shady Cove male juvenile was arrested on Feb. 10 for Aggravated Animal Abuse in the 1st Degree. The charge is a Class C felony. The juvenile, whose name is not being released,  pending current investigation and likelihood of other arrests, is currently lodged at the Juvenile Detention Center in Medford.  The investigation is continuing.

Early in December, Michael and Summer Finn were feeding and taking care of a stray cat. On Dec. 22, the cat came to their Eagle Point home and Summer Finn allowed the cat inside. The cat immediately hid. After some coaxing, the cat came out and allowed Summer to hold him. She observed he was injured and had severe burns. She took the cat to Jackson County Animal Control. He was transported to Best Friends Animal Hospital to be treated. They named him Meshach and he is currently in good condition at Sanctuary One.

There are rewards totaling $5,000 pending the arrest and prosecution of the person(s) responsible. The rewards are from donations by Sanctuary One and the Humane Society of the United States.
