Daffodils will bloom but no “daze”

The Shady Cove Daffodil Daze Festival will not take place this year.  However, there
will still be a “daze of daffodils” blooming throughout Shady Cove and on “Daffodil Hill”.

You can still “go daffy” wearing your spring bonnets, caps, daffy boutonnières, and celebrate the arrival of spring.  But, due to unpredictable weather and circumstances beyond our control, there will be no scheduled outdoor festival or trolley shuttles.

Daffodil Banners, hung by the Shady Cove Booster’s beautification committee, will continue to wave hello to locals and welcome visitors.  A thousand daffodil bulbs planted last fall at the Shady Cove City Hall will bloom for their first year; and, faithful daffodils on “Daffodil Hill” will continue their spring showing.

Depending on the weather, the five week daffodil blooming season begins mid-March.  Blooms on “Daffodil Hill” will peak the first of April and continue through the end of the month.

As always, the public is invited to enjoy the experience of spring in Shady Cove. Take a leisurely “self-guided drive” up Daffodil Hill – enjoy millions of daffodils, scenic wildlife and panoramic view points from the comfort of your vehicle; the experience will lift your spirits and give you “a million reasons to smile!”

Directions to “Daffodil Hill” – Hwy 62 to Shady Cove, turn on Rogue River Drive, continue 1/8 mile to Sawyer Road, turn right for your drive up “Daffodil Hill” to the big oak “turn around tree”.  It is suggested that large tour buses call ahead, or email the Chamber for convenient turn-around locations.

The Legend of “Daffodil Hill” began in 1995.  Shady Cove residents and businesses remember the vision of beauty and generous contribution of Ron and Charlotte Boehm.  Each fall, the staff at Grey Oaks Development, non-profit organizations including churches and schools, teamed up to plant thousands of daffodil bulbs along the roadside and meadows of Sawyer Road.  Millions of brightly colored daffodils bloom each year to give hope and the promise of spring to local citizenry, businesses, and visitors of all ages.
