On Sunday, Mar. 4, 2012 at 7:58 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Rogue Valley Medical Center concerning a child who was seen in the Emergency Department for severe burns. Doctors in the emergency department suspected the one year old child was the victim of abuse.
Through the investigation it was determined Trevor M. Emptage, 28,, of White City, became upset with the child after it defecated in the tub during a bath. Evidence showed the child had been held in scalding hot water by force, causing 1st and 2nd degree burns on the body from the waist down. Emptage is the child’s foster parent. The child has been transported to a Portland hospital for treatment due to the severity of the injuries.
The Department of Human Services was called in to assist in removing a second child from the White City home.
Emptage was lodged at the Jackson County Jail for Assault in the first degree and Criminal Mistreatment in the first degree. Bail is set at $1,005,000. Additional charges are pending.
The case remains under investigation.
