Gracie Lee (Inman) Pryor

Gracie Lee (Inman) Pryor, age 95, passed away on March 20, 2012, with her daughter at her side in her home in Eagle Point, Ore. Gracie was born November 5, 1916, in Knoxville, Tenn., to Cash Inman and Josephine Houston.

She married June Pryor on September 28, 1935, in Decatur, Ill. They moved to Peoria, Ill., where June worked for Caterpillar. While in Peoria, their son, James, and daughter, Barbara, were born. They moved to Franklin Park where June supported the war effort working for Douglas Aircraft. In 1945, they moved to Palatine, Illinois, remaining there until 1972, when they moved to Desert Crest Country Club in Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

Gracie decided to learn to golf. She bought an instruction book and headed to a driving range. She joined the par-three women’s league at her club, and on her first day of club golf, she got a hole-in-one. She soon became one of the best golfers and won several local tournaments. She also toured with the Southern California Par-3 Assoc. Gracie and June also joined a bowling league. Their team won first place two years in a row, with both of them receiving awards for high games. While golf remained her passion, Gracie also loved to sew, quilt, knit, crochet and play bingo.

After June died in 1991, Gracie continued to live in California until 2005, when she suffered a stroke. She moved to her daughter’s home to recover and, after a year, moved to Anna Maria Creekside in Medford, where she stayed until 2011. After a brief stay in adult foster care, she returned to her daughter’s home shortly before her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, June; sisters, Julie Marie Baldwin and Pearle Mae Stiffler; and eight half-siblings. She is survived by son, James Pryor (Nancy), of Palatine, Ill.; daughter, Barbara Williams (Bruce), of Eagle Point, Ore.; grandsons, Jeffrey Pryor (Catherine), of Lake Zurich, Ill., and Michael Pryor (Kristen), of Palatine, Ill.; great-granddaughters, Kallie Morgan Pryor and Teagan Gracie Pryor; and her half-brother, Mearle Inman (Patty), of Williamsport, Ind.

Gracie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
