Flag displays, Scottish Bagpipe band, a rifle salute and flyovers will all be part of the 2012 Memorial Day program at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Rd., on Monday, May 28, at 11 a.m.
The National Anthem and God Bless the USA will be performed by Brian Williams. ANG 173rd Fighter Wing will provide the F-15 flyover and a flyover by the WW II bi-planes will also take place.
The program will include all branches of the military, advancement of colors by Veteran Service Organizations, Oregon Army National Guard Military Honors Team will provide the rifle salute and Taps will be played by Al Zeller SSG US Army (ret).
Speakers will include Senator Ron Wyden, Dave Dotterer Col USMS (ret) and Mark Dalton Sgt. 1st Class US Army.
Attendance is expected to exceed 2,400. More than 120 U.S. flags donated by veterans’ families will be flown along the Avenue of Flags, from Highway 62 and Linn Road through downtown Eagle Point, across the bridge, and on up toward the cemetery. State flags will also be displayed.
On Thursday, May 26, at 12:30 p.m., students from Scenic Middle School will place U.S. flags on nearly 17,000 gravesites.
