Bonnie L. Smith

Bonnie L. Smith died, July 25, 2012, of Shady Cove, Oregon, near her daughter and son-in-law in Trail. Bonnie was born in Meridian, Mississippi, on March 1, 1924, to Carrie Linton Sanders and Cornelius Bradford Sanders. She was a war bride and married Vernon W. Smith (deceased 6/17/1994) in 1943. During the war she moved from Mississippi with her new baby daughter to be close to her new husband’s family in Philadelphia as Vernon (Smitty) had been shipped out to England. She often told stories about the journey by train from Mississippi to Philadelphia.

Bonnie had a long life living in Pennsylvania for most of her life. She then resided in Clewiston, Florida, Half Moon Bay, California, and finally Shady Cove Oregon. She liked to say she had “been around”.

Bonnie is survived by son, Ronald V. Smith, and daughter-in-law, Charlaine Smith of Evans, West Virginia; daughter-in-law, Denise Wilson, of Muncy, Pa.; daughter, Linda J. Forsberg, and son-in-law Norman J. Forsberg of Trail, Oregon. Another son, Gregory Bradford Smith, passed away in December 2010 (husband of Denise Wilson). She is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews and cousins who all stayed in touch with her over the years.

Mom loved her cat, Freddie, who was by her side in Shady Cove and her original cat, Morris, was the love of her life; she loved music, flowers and especially red roses. She was loved by her family and many friends and enjoyed keeping in touch.

Mom was short in stature but big in heart. She lived life on her own terms until the end. We miss you, Mom.

A private family service was held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Memory Gardens, Medford, Oregon.
