Young gardeners at Lake Creek Learning Center harvested their potato crop after returning to school in September.
Two varieties of potatoes were planted in early spring in the 6 x 8 foot raised bed. The Red Sobas produced more than the Yukon Golds. The largest potatoes weighed 12 oz. The children divided the potatoes among all those who helped harvest and took them home to share with their families.
The bed has now been planted with a cover crop of fava beans that will grow through the winter and enrich the soil for another spring planting.
