As an Eagle Point area resident who lives near Highway 62, we want you to be aware of a construction project scheduled this summer on Highway 62 between Linn Road and Oregon 234.
First of all, the contractor for the main project won’t be known until early May when the project in bid. However, there will be utility relocation work and an emerging Small Business contract for the Eagle Point Irrigation District taking place this spring and early summer. Work affecting traffic will take place mostly at night.
The main project will begin in either late June or after the July 4th Holiday. It is slated to end by October 31st. as part of the project, the existing pavement on the highway will be replaced, but of particular interest to you it will:
• Widen the highway between Rolling Hills Drive and Crystal Drive to accommodate a continuous two-way left turn lane. This will increase safety and allow a turning refuge for adjacent properties.
• Construct a protected left turn pocket for traffic turning off of south bound Highway 62 on to Barton Road. There will still be no lefts out of Barton Road onto Highway 62.
•The Barton road access to Highway 62 will be temporarily closed during the project to expedite construction of the left turn refuge. During the temporary closure, local access to the highway will be via Sienna Hills to the signalized Crystal Drive intersection.
• Widen the highway shoulder and “throat” at Rolling Hills Drive to provide for more room for vehicles leaving and entering the highway.
• Limited mailbox relocation will be accommodated throughout the project to make it easier for adjacent property owner to access their boxes.
To speed up the project, and to keep traffic moving, the contactor will be working at night from 7pm to 7am. Some work will occur off the roadway during daytime hours with flagger control kept to short distances. Work during morning and evening peak travel time will be avoided.
There will be some noise and some out of direction travel for those residents who use Barton Road, and those who live in the adjace4nt neighborhoods, this is the only way for us to try to make it a one season project instead of two.
