Marie Ostmo of Eagle Point died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Yuma, Arizona at the age of 74. She was born on March 9, 1938 in Bend, Oregon to Marion and Dorothy Walters, and spent her childhood growing up in Shady Cove, Oregon.
A 1956 graduate of Eagle Point High School, Marie graduated from Southern Oregon State College in 1960 and went on to teach third grade in the Eagle Point school district for three years and first grade for twenty seven years before retiring. Marie had a master’s degree in education and specialized in teaching dyslexic children.
After retirement, she spent her summers in the Rogue Valley and her winters in Yuma, Arizona where she enjoyed the warm weather and a park full of friends. She was an avid and talented wood carver and an active member of the Upper Rogue United Methodist Church. She spent 22 wonderful years of retirement doing what she loved the most: traveling, spending time with friends, and spending time around her grandchildren and family.
Marie is survived by Leif, her husband of 52 years; son Erik Ostmo; grandsons Nate, Nolan and Nick Ostmo; son and daughter-in-law Chris and Andrea Ostmo; grandchildren Christian, Amarissa, Angelique and Caleb Ostmo; and her younger brother Dave Walters.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday March 15, 2013 at the Upper Rogue United Methodist Church, 18977 Highway 62, Shady Cove, Oregon with a reception following.
