Ms. Margaret (Peggy) Stermer-Cox began working as a fine art painter after retiring from service in the United States Army. However, her art training started as a child. Daughter of New Mexico artist John H. Stermer, Margaret grew up seeing and studying paintings daily. Mr. Stermer’s influence is seen in Margaret’s use of color and line in her paintings. Ms. Stermer-Cox’s studies have been self-guided. Peggy has recently moved to the Rogue Valley from Ocean Shows, WA.
I begin my paintings with an idea. My subject is what I see, remember or imagine. I draw lines and shapes while looking for rhythm and feeling. I build the painting layer by layer. My color sense is a reflection of my childhood in New Mexico fused with colors of my home in the Northwest. My goal is to go beyond the surface to find joy, humor and a bit of mystery. Then, I add a line, drip, dot or splash to remind myself it’s a painting!Website: www.dancingclouds.com
