The Butte Falls Speech and Debate Team attended the Robert Clark Invitational at the University of Oregon in Eugene on February 21-22, 2014. Forty teams, resulting in 154 debate entries and 523 entries in speech events, attended the tournament, representing schools from across Oregon, as well as from California, Washington State, and Canada. Butte Falls Coach Marcia Stewart-Warren announced that two students advanced to elimination rounds at the meet. Freshman Brandon Goodman finished second in Junior Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Junior Luke Kuykendall was a finalist in both Varsity Dramatic Interpretation and Varsity Prose Reading. Kuykendall also received third place in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate. His third place finish is his second proven excellence bid in L-D Debate, guaranteeing him the opportunity to compete in L-D Debate at the State Speech Championships in April. Coach Warren also extended her appreciation to three former team members, Michaela Langston, Brittney Gorman, and Collette Bray, who travelled to Eugene to judge at the tournament. The next competition for the Butte Falls Team is the National Forensic League South Oregon District Student Congress qualification tournament scheduled for March 8, 2014 at North Valley High School in Grants Pass.
